Police enter Manus Island refugee camp

CANBERRA -- Asylum seekers in Papua New Guinea’s Manus Island refugee camp say they have been attacked and had their possessions destroyed after police stormed the facility.

The standoff has drawn global attention to Australia’s harsh asylum-seeker policies. There are 1,264 people detained on Australian territory, and 1,035 held on foreign soil.
